Singer-songwriter Michelangelo Capraro writes songs that are melancholy, questioning, and tell stories of life beyond the daydreams and heartbreaks of youth. Michelangelo began a michelangelo moment in 2024 with the release of his debut album, “It Was Lost Somehow.”
A Michelangelo Moment - the musical project of California-based singer-songwriter, Michelangelo Capraro - taps into the universal feelings of loss, nostalgia, and the bittersweet nature of growing up. Through acoustic guitar, poppy synths, and emotionally charged vocals, Michelangelo’s songs are achingly melancholy, questioning, and tell stories of life beyond the daydreams and heartbreaks of youth.
Michelangelo’s creative path began in the Los Angeles alternative rock scene of the 1990s, now in San Francisco, A Michelangelo Moment represents a more reflective and vulnerable musical avenue.
I love melancholy music - Rufus Wainwright and Radiohead are huge influences. As a kid, my parents listened to mainly traditional Italian songs... and Elvis. Lots of Elvis. As a child of the 80’s and 90’s I fell in love with Crowded House, Paul Simon, Counting Crows, and Gillian Welch. Today, Harry Styles, Bruno Major, Laufey, and Lizzy McAlpine really inspire me - so many different influences have left imprints on me and at different times I feel them emerging into my music.
I love music of all kinds, but when I sit down to write a song, it almost always ends up being something melancholy and introspective. It’s just where my heart goes.
I wrote “When You’re Young” to capture that reflective feeling when I think of the dreams I had in my youth. I flip through my old journals and see the same dreams throughout the years. Core dreams that don’t seem to change. I wanted to capture that feeling we get when we are reminded of those core dreams that you just can’t shake - they are still possible.
Some people like to use music to escape the pain and the sadness. I like music that helps me wallow in in the sadness.
From the very first guitar arpeggio, It Was Lost Somehow establishes a michelangelo moment as a refined artist with a distinct voice.
